Refund and Cancellation Policy
This page explains how Unique Repair Services handles cancellations, rescheduling, refunds, parts returns and warranty claims. It applies to every appointment booked by phone, online or through our scheduling form.
1. Canceling or moving an appointment
An appointment can be canceled or moved at no charge at any point before the technician is dispatched to your address. As much notice as you can give is appreciated, and a call to (847) 495-2170 is all it takes.
If the technician reaches the address inside the agreed window and cannot get in, or nobody aged 18 or over is there, a trip charge equal to the service call fee may be applied.
2. The service call fee
The service call fee pays for the travel, the technician's time and the assessment of your appliance. Once that assessment has been carried out the fee has been earned, and it is therefore not refundable, whether or not you decide to go ahead with the repair.
Approve the recommended repair and the fee is credited in full against the cost of that repair.
3. Repairs that have been completed
Appliance repair is a service carried out at your property, so a completed repair is not refundable as a matter of routine. Instead of a refund, what we offer is this:
- Should the same problem return within 30 days of the completed repair, we come back and redo the work with no charge for labor.
- Should a part we installed fail inside the manufacturer warranty period for that part, we replace it with no charge for the part.
- Should we be unable to resolve the original problem on that return visit, we refund the labor portion of the repair.
Warranty visits are scheduled during our normal hours of operation. A claim has to come from the person named on the original invoice, and the invoice or job number is needed.
4. What the warranty does not reach
- A new or unrelated problem, or a second part that gives out after our visit.
- Damage from misuse, a power surge, flooding, pests, hard water, or continued use of an appliance we advised you to stop using.
- Work done on the appliance by anyone else after our visit.
- Consumables and wear items such as filters, bulbs, belts, hoses and gaskets used up in normal service.
- An appliance that was described to you as not economically repairable at the time of the visit.
5. Parts
Parts ordered for your appliance. A part ordered specifically for your machine cannot be returned or refunded once it has been ordered, because manufacturers do not take them back. Where a deposit has been taken against such a part, that deposit is not refundable if you cancel after the order has gone in.
Defective parts. A part that arrives defective, or that gives out inside its warranty period, is replaced at no cost to you.
Parts bought without installation. An unopened, uninstalled stock part may be returned within 14 days of purchase with the original invoice. A restocking charge of up to 20 percent may apply. Electrical parts, control boards and specially ordered items cannot be returned once the packaging has been opened.
6. Appliances that are not worth repairing
Where the diagnostics show that an appliance cannot be repaired economically or safely, only the service call fee is charged. No repair charge applies, and we set out in writing how we reached that conclusion.
7. Making a claim
- Call (847) 495-2170 or write to service@uniquerepairservice.com.
- Have the invoice or job number, the appliance model number and the date of service ready.
- Describe what the appliance is doing now and anything that has changed since our visit.
Every request is acknowledged within 2 business days and we aim to settle it within 10 business days. An approved refund is returned to the original method of payment and normally appears within 5 to 10 business days, depending on the bank or card issuer.
8. Card disputes
Please talk to us before starting a chargeback. Nearly every dispute we have seen was settled directly and a great deal faster than a card dispute would have been, and we would far rather put the problem right than argue about it.

Ring the office and put the question to us. Explaining a clause out loud takes a minute and beats leaving anyone to guess what it means.
