About Us
Unique Repair Services was built on one straightforward idea: the technician who tests your appliance should be the one who repairs it, and the price you are quoted should be the price on the invoice.
Thirty years in the same towns
We started in Des Plaines in 1994 and we are still here, working outward from an office on Touhy Avenue through the northwest suburbs and the North Shore. Staying in one place for three decades teaches a company things that cannot be learned any other way: what an Illinois winter does to a refrigerator kept in an unheated garage, what well water out toward Barrington does to a dishwasher heating element, and how a 1920s house in Winnetka has usually been rewired around a kitchen that was installed seventy years later.
How a visit works
Repairs are carried out where the appliance already stands. There is no workshop to deliver a machine to and no queue to join. A technician comes to you inside a two hour window, with the parts that fail most often on your particular model already on the van.
The sequence never changes. Test the appliance properly, using live readings and whatever record the machine has kept for itself, rather than working from assumption. Give one price that includes the part and the work together. Wait for your approval. Only then does anything come apart.
What we do differently
Diagnostics come before the quote. The gap between an inexpensive part and an expensive one often comes down to a single reading. Swapping parts until something works is quick for the technician and costly for the customer.
We say no when saying no is right. Where a repair would run past half the price of a comparable new machine and yours is already beyond two thirds of its service life, we recommend replacement instead. Losing one job is better than selling a part that should not be bought.
Built-in appliances are ordinary work here. Refrigeration columns, integrated dishwashers, wine cabinets and professional ranges make up a large share of our week in Northbrook, Glenview, Winnetka and Barrington. Taking a panel-ready unit out of custom cabinetry without leaving a mark is unhurried work, and we do not hurry it.
Weekends cost what weekdays cost. There is no after hours surcharge on a scheduled appointment, on a Saturday or a Sunday.
Our technicians
Our technicians are trained on the makes they service and hold EPA certification for sealed system refrigeration work. They carry manufacturer documentation and diagnostic tooling for all twenty-four makes we support, from Whirlpool and GE through to Thermador, Wolf, Miele, Liebherr and La Cornue.
They also carry one instruction that matters more than any of that: explain what has happened and why, in plain language, before quoting anything at all.
Where we work
Des Plaines, Park Ridge, Glenview, Northbrook, Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Buffalo Grove, Deerfield, Barrington, Winnetka and Wilmette. The same standards, the same warranty and the same flat price policy apply in every one of them.
What we promise
